Check out the Feb issue of Dirt Wheels. They do a test on a turbo Banshee capable of a GUARANTEED 130 hp (crank) and 110 hp (rear wheels). Best of all the motor is basically STOCK!! You all are probably as amazed as I am. The only mods were a welded crank, an override gearbox, clutch plates and an 8" over swingarm. The rest is basically stock. They say to have over 400 dyno runs on the motor without a problem.

Seems like all the hype about the Banshee bottom end and other issues are pure bull. It made me happy to know that you can subject the Banshee motor to these kinds of stresses and still be reliable.

Now, if I can talk my wife into the $5600 for the kit...

Sandman-
I got to ride that Banshee in Garden City, Ks were GP Engineering is located at. It is defintely worth the money. Like you said the motor is almost stock! Just think if they ported it?! Kevin Gigot owner GP has a 420 kit on his banshee that he is going to put one of his efi turbo kits on for 170hp!

What is the phone number and address for HiPer Tech? The numbers listed in the dirt wheels magazine are incorrect. I need to get some information on the turbo for the DS650 that they are working on.

The test rider in dirt wheels was at silver this weekend with a turbo carbuerated (sp?) banshee. THat thing was unbelievable. They were saying the carbed bike was actually running bettter than the efi bike...wierd.

409LongRod,

The carbed turbo running better than the fuel injected may have something to do with the thermal dynamics of it. Compressing the air is going to build a lot of heat, and the carb may let the fuel evaporate a little better which would cool the air a better.

Technically: Carburetors deliver most of the fuel in a liquid state, and as this raw fuel atomizes from liquid to gas, a chemical state change occurs. Due to this change (endothermic reaction), which draws heat and cools the incoming air, a carbureted motor can handle more boost and/or run cooler than EFI motors.

305hp Suzuki!

Read it again - 305hp. If you were in New Zealand over the Easter Break, you would have been in Queenstown watching the Goldrush hill climb. This is modeled on Pikes Peak, only it is narrower and gravel. Mike Shackelton had is latest version of Quadzilla III.

Take the fuel injected 1300cc motor from the Suzuki Hayabusa that just set the land speed record for a motorcycle in New Zealand, shove it in a modified LT500 frame. Then decide it has not got enough hp, so throw a Nissan Skyline turbo charger at it. Then DE-tune to 305hp (from 400hp)so everything doesn't break, weld up the clutch (as that broke) as it is a rolling start, then find religion and hold on for a wild ride to the top!

He failed to finish the event, but if you head to Pikes Peak this year, just ask for "Shacq" and he will be there. He wants a win outright, but I think will settle for a ATV win.
