A couple of buddies and I went to Haspin Acres yesterday. Some pretty awesome riding and drag racing. We stopped for our last break of the day and I noticed that I had quite a bit of slop in my stearing stem. I am not sure if something loosend up or I broke someting? I looked at where the stem is connected to the frame and it looks like a castle nut with a cotter pin(I don't think that could have loosened up). Is there another bolt somewhere on the stem that could have loosed up? Thanks!

That nut at the bottom of the steering stem DOES come loose. Put a wrench to it and tighten it up, your play will be gone. Happened to me first ride. The cotter pin keeps the nut from falling off but does not keep it from loosening. I torqued mine down pretty tight and it hasnt come loose again but some people loctite this.

I had the same problem until I read your solution. I'll give that a shot today. Thanks!

What is that part? I looked it up at Riva Yamaha, on the original parts finder, and I couldn't find it listed. Maybe I missed it.
Thanks.

The part# is for a castle nut to replace the locknut that comes stock on the raptor. If you do this and use a cotter pin you won't have to worry about it anymore.

I do not have a Raptor but have the same problem with my Wolverine. It had up and down play and side to side play. I replaced the lower bearing and seal and replaced the upper bushing. The up and down play was eliminated by installing the new bearing, but the side to side play is still there. There is no play when turing the handlebars like would be expected with bad tie rods, this is side to side, when you push left or right from one side or the other. Worn steering stem?
