Putting a winch on Wolverine
#1
I just bought a wolverine and I am interested in putting a winch on it. I was looking at the SuperWinch 1500, I can get one for $125 which is a lot cheaper than anything else I've found. I was wonder what you guys think of this winch. Also when I get it is it going to have to be mounted in front of the bumper or not? There isn't much room behind the bumper for it. Thanks for the help.

2 neighbors BOTH had super winches on their quads. Because of their experience I bought a WARN winch. Both superwinches went through multiple switches, and even though they offered a new upgraded switch, problems continued.
Also, I didnt like the final ratio on the winch. A 1500 pound winch, should not struggle to pull a Lakota up a hill..
Just my Thoughts.

I have a Wolverine with a Warn mounted behind the bumper below the grill. They do sell kits to mount here but it requires extension brackets to tilt your bumper out more to make room. I made my own mount and was able to fit with the bumper in original position. It requires moving the oil cooler back in the frame, but this is easy. A Superwinch should fit since they are smaller than Warn. I dont think you would like the winch hanging out in front of the bumper.

Thanks for the help guys. I don't want to have to winch in front of the bumper, I think it would be to exposed in that position. I think I just may hold off on the winch for now, I don't know if I actually need one. Thanks again.

I agree that the winch in front of the bumper is not a good idea. I had a Warn winch mounted using the Yamaha Mounting plate, and it was a problem on steep declines. Many times it would dig in when I got to the bottom of the hill. I took it off because I was worried about flipping over.
I soon realized though, that you don't really need a winch on a Wolverine. Once you get used to it, it's very easy to get unstuck.
