I'm looking in to buying one of these two fourwheelers. Which is a better mudder? Which is faster?

Not This again!

Set your "show all posts from the last XXX days" to 75 in the Yamaha Threads, and look
up a Thread called "if you had any 4 wheel drive" I believe it's date is around 12-01 or
02-99.

You should find Info and Heated dialect aplenty in that segment.

I have a 2000 Grizzly with 400km's on it which isn't much, but i have ridden it hard at times to see if it can take a beating, and well yes i am impressed. It is also very quick, fastest sport utility out there.
As for mud it has limited slip in the front, but alot of mud riding also has to do with the driver. I pulled out an SP a few years back with my old big bear. I went first and he ended up getting stuck some how.
Atleast with the Grizzly when you hit the 4*4 butten you get 4*4. The polaris has sensors that when the back wheels spin then the 4*4 kicks in, unitl then your rear end does all the work, and sensors are for street machines not bush machines i think. Mud and water do lots of damage.
Its up to you though, the only thing with the Grizzly it is a little harder on gas but is very reliable, especially the 99 and 00, models.
The Grizzly is only 600lbs compared to the Sportsman's 697 according to the specs. Big weight difference too.
Grizzly also has the highest towing capacity except for the Diesel, it is higher.
There ya go.

#1the Grizzly is not the fastest utility quad. That title belongs to the 400 explorer (it has more hp and is a few pounds lighter) #2 the Grizz has the "old style"limited slip front end which does not engage all 4 wheels in loose conditions hence the expression 3-wheel drive because when you get stuck in the mud thats exactly what you have. The Grizzly is a very nice machine but it is not the fastest, nor does it have true 4-wheel drive.
I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone familiar with both machines to say that the limited slip system is superior to an all wheel full lock up system.

Funny you ask, I just got done riding with a group and we had a 98' Grizz and a 98'Sportsman. I was absolutly amazed at what that Sportsman would do. It literly made things look effortless.

It has a much wider stance(more stable), way better stock tires, and more ground clearance.

I Really like the Grizzly but would have to give the title to Polaris.

It seemed that every time time the grizz needed 4wd, the tire in the air was the the only one spinning. Limited slip my @!#.

P.S. Why do all polaris's look so funny?
