Has anybody raced the 01 against the 02 yet? If so what were the results. Something with the new gearing makes me think that the 01' might have an edge.

 

i raced one last night. they were dead even till i hit 4 th gear and i pulled a couple bike lengths on him

I rode a 02 a month ago at the dunes and thru 3 gear (not hard because it was just out of the box)it felt just like my 01 with 12/42 gears. We will be getting together again once the 02 is broke in. The guy with the 02 also had a 01 and he said the same thing I did about the 02 feeling like the 12/42 setup. With the gear changes on the 02 being 1,2,and 3rd gears and 4 an 5th being the same as the 01 it seems to me that one or the other would have an advantage through 3rd gear. The 02 gearing seemed so close to the 01 with 12/42 setup I would lean toward a stock or 12/40 01 having the advantage over the 02. What I have seen with the combinations we have is that the 12/42 does not have a chance against the 01 with 12/40 setup. I only use the 12/42 setup Raptor for some of my riding conditions and use another Raptor with stock gearing for dunes and track. By the way all three Raptors are bone stock and over time I will have more information on the subject.

 

I posted on this before........when I installed a 14 tooth sprocket on mine (instead of the stock 13 tooth), my Raptor was noticably quicker getting up to speed....apparantly because of the Raptors excellent power curve. I would be very surprised if the '02 would be quicker through the first 3 gears on hard pack in a drag.....sand would probably be a different story.
