RAPTOR REAR BRAKE DISK
#1
I was out this weekend and the rear tire dug up a rock which hit the axel nut and then slammed into the side of the rear brake rotor. I guess the skid plate wouldn't have even saved that one. Anyways two questions:
1. Has anyone replace the brake disk with an aftermarket stainless steel or vented one? Price difference is like $42 stock and around $100 aftermarket. Don't ride much in real rocky stuff so does it warrant to spend the extra? What are advantages or disadvantages of aftermarket?
2. Has anyones rear brake disk loosened or has a little free play in it? Not side to side but if you were to grab it it would have a small amount of play front to back. Does the axel nut need to be re-tightened?

A thicker aftermarket rotor will not warp as easily as the stock rotor but unless you race you probably don't need one. If your rotor has play front to back the axle nuts need to be tightened. It's not a bad idea to back them all the way off first and clean the threads. Then use locktight when reinstalling them, or buy an aftermarket locking nut.

well i too hit a big rock and bent my rear rotor, the stock skid is what i replaced. i got a new stock rotor which is just fine stopping power. don't get the vented rotor it will clog up with mud. i got the PRO-TECT stainless steel skid plate now this will never happen again . save your money on the rotor and get a good skid!!!!!

I bought the hardened EBC brake rotor (solid) from Rocky Mountain ATV. I have run down into the metal portion of the brakes a couple of times without putting any grooves into this rotor. I am now running solid brass rear brakes and it holds up to them too. I am happy with the $90 I paid for it. Also, I have the Protec stainless skidplate and couldn't be happier with it either ($145). I have hit some nasty rocks with no problems.
