I always found it best to "low ball". I got my 02 Raptor for 6200 plus a $200 check for accesories. I think you could probably get one for about 6K out the door (depending on how many sales they had that month).

A new one ('01)went for $5400 on ebay last week. It was sold by a Yamaha dealer in Tn. If you can look him up on ebay, and give him a call, it might be worth the effort. He will ship.

I saw that same auction. I believe he stated he had both colors also. I believe he is clearing out old inventory so he can get more 02's in. 5400 for a new machine is a steal, with the extra 1000 bucks you can get the Fortin gearset right away. Awesome deal. To answer the question My local dealer sells raptors for 6299 plus tax, no setup charges. I got my Limited edition for 6499.

MNWildFan:

Your dealer charges no set-up cost? Are you sure? Sometimes they call it Dealer prep. Also @ $6,299.00 plus tax, total of $6,499.00 that would make your sales tax only $200.00 or "3%". Is it really only 3%? What about registration costs, does your state impose any? Do you have paperwork that shows that the final price is $6,499.00 out the door?

MN has a 6.5% sales tax but what he is saying is that he is paying $200 more foe the LE b4 sales tax but no they dont charge any set up or prep and license is $26 or $28 I have found one for $5895 and should close the deal in the next week or two....

there are many dealers in the mid west that sell them for the mid to upper 5k range for the 01' I saw an add the other day for an 01' for 5300.00 plus frt. and set up . I have bought three bikes from that dealer and paid 135.00 for frt. and set up and i think there was a 39.00 paper work fee. I would say that if an 01' can be puchased for 5500.00 to 5900.00 or an 02' if you look hard enough. I do know that frt. and set up is a fake fee added to the bikes. there are a lot of dealers that do not charge it. always skip the bs and ask for the out the door price when calling around. in the past I have printed of a list of dealers in the area that i am willing to travel to. you can get a dealer list from yamaha's web site. just use the dealer locator. another tip is that in many areas buying out of state can save you a few hundred bucks by avoiding sales tax.

I picked up a 2002 for $6,000.00 out the door. (Indiana) They were selling the 01's at that time for $5,899.00, it wasn't much of a decicion except for the three month wait.
