Had some metal piece break off and sit in the bottom of my right side case and chew the plastic oil pump gear behind the clutch basket. There are two gears that are plastic. One is mounted to the oil pump w/ a snap ring and the other is behind the clutch basket. Both have no teeth on them due to the foreign piece of metal rolling around in the right crankcase cover. I went to Yamaha and they do not sell the plastic gear alone that goes on the back of the clutch basket. You must by the whole assembly behind the basket. 248 kahoooooona's. Holy ship CAPTAIN! They said it's made as a single operating item. I've already spent 130 on a new oil pump and plastic gear and gaskets. Does anybody know of a discount Yammy dealer for this over priced item??? The metal piece is a mystery, uh oh......

 

I just had the same thing happen because my oil pump locked up, but if you find anything out please let me know.

 

Wow talk about an old topic.. Anyway my third gear had a piece chunk out the size of an eraser.. My second gear was okay, but replaced it anyway. Yamaha paid for all my parts after my call to their Main office.. I was out of warranty by 6 months.
