I was hoping I would be lucky but guess what, my tranny is starting to slip, and pop. I did not take the 3 year warantee, I am off the 6 mo warantee and both my dealer and the Yamaha Customer Service people said "Does it still run? Well ride it til it doesn't"
Last part of my vin 005480.
Is there a proven fix? Can you put in '02 gears (Yamaha says no but I have heard otherwise) or is the forged set better. I want a permanent fix

Can't use any of the '02 stuff. Everything is different, including the center cases. You should contact Fortin, as they have a forged set of gears that is supposed to be the hot ticket on the '01's. Don't know their phone number, but I'm sure other guys on this forum will. Sorry you had the bad luck. That's why I sold my '01 in favor of an '02...didn't want to wait for the inevitable, especially since I didn't get the extended warranty either.

You can fix the geard with the aboved mentioned set or trade it in on a 02. If they give you any grief about the trans making noises just give them the line they gave you. Good luck.

I broke my trans on my 01 raptor I used the forged gears. Outlaw ATV in New Jersey sold them to me and did all the work so far all is great. Why put the same crappy stock gears back in doesnt make sense. They put 2nd and 3rd gears in and I was there last week getting my Curts Sparks exhaust they said now there might even be a 5th gear set comming out soon. So I guess there might be problems with 5th also. But so far so good with mine.

Do you work for Yamaha? That's what they told me, but after I Embarrassed myself talking with the folks at Duncan Racing with that statement. They told me they were working on an upgrade kit for the '01's with stock '02 parts....So being the doubting Thomas that I am, I called CT, same answer, then Four Stroke Teck, Same Answer. I Stopped by my Yammy shop and started comparing part numbers '01 - '02 only the paired gears with ratio changes (1, 2, 3 & Reverse (1 is part of the main shaft)) and the number 2 shift fork were different?? Which is what I expected. So far we are at 12 parts at a cost of around $400. What am I missing? The three shops said they would have a definite solution, at least parts list in a couple weeks and wanted 4 - 6 weeks for testing?????

Heres your best route and the one I'm currently taking.
Yamaha/USA 1-800-962-7926 I talked to Jim Moore
They are unaware of a second gear problem. I explained my problem and they are being coopertaive so far. Quote "We stand behind our product 100% and do everything we can to ensure customer satisfaction" unquote. My cases are not split yet. A dealer must split them to get any help of any kind from the factory. Do not bitch when you call. It will get.... sorry your out of warranty, seeya! Talk in a civilized manner and explain how you just spent 7000 and you can't see why it would lose a tranny. I expressed disappointemnt. Have your vin# ready. I received professional answers w/ some hint of hope that Yamaha will make it right!! Good luck

Sandgod: Is your tranny currently having symptoms? Complete failure? Or are your actions preventative in nature? Whats your vin #?

I am having problems. The dog that broke off fell into the bottom of my case and bounced around stripping the oil pump gear, and nylon gear on the back of the clutch basket. New oil pump about 105, new clutch basket assembly just for a stinkin nylon gear 248 bucks. Nylon gear that slips on the oil pump 13 bucks. Gaskets about 25 bucks. Thats 400 and I haven't even split the cases. Vin# 6563
