Anybody try an ignition advance key on the 660 Grizzly yet? I notice that some of the top engine builders recommend them for the Raptor. What kind of gains will it give. One builder says it advances the timing 6 degrees.

 

Along with his question, what are the downsides to advancing the ignition? Is a timing key really a free lunch? Will you get the same benfit on stock machines or just modded ones (high compression piston, cam, etc.)?

 

from what I hear the advance key is not doing much for anyone, I bought one from sparks but the installation was not trivial so it is just sitting on my workbench, too much trouble for not enough gain, maybe it works better on the griz though

 

I added one to my Raptor and consistantly gained 2 lengths through 150 yds. THis is absolute Fact. I have read that anything over a mild Raptor will not benefit from this mod. I don't see why the Griz would'nt benefit from this mod as well.

 

Does the 6 degree advance affect how the engine runs? At speed? At an idle?

 

I have no experience with the raptor ignition advance key, but i have alot of experience in advancing and retarding ignition, i have advanced the ignition in my mustang and you do gain a little power, but it also increases the chance of detonation so you need to run higher octane fuel to offset this.
