as most of you know by now i am about to buy a 2002 banshee and i am planning mods so i was woundering if it is worth the money to split the case`s and ship off the crank and have it welded and who would you suggest to do it right now i am looking at duncan

 

What kind of Mods?

I had a 420 big bore modded out pretty far and never hurt the crank, but I think I was lucky. My buddy who still has a big bore banshee just shattered a crank, but it was the original one from 1989.

Would I tear it down and have it welded up? No.. not unless I was going modded to the extreme.

Worse comes to worse you can buy a new wiseco hot rods crank for less than $400 and then another $100 or so in welding and rebalancing. But unless you're thinking big bore I doubt you ever spin a crank..

the only mods i have planned right now are a cool head of some sort (either trinity or pro-design) so I can change switch the domes for race gas or pump gas depending on riding, a set of paul turner low-mid pipes, and have it bored as needed, that is all i have planned for at least the first two or three years i have it

No you dont need to weld the crank, but Id rethink those Paul Turners. Have yet to see a banshee run worth darn with them.

I never had the Paul Turners.. can't say much about them..

I had the Toomey t-5's. I wasn't overly impressed, personally I think those are more for sand riding. My buddy has the FMF Gnarlys.. now his quad I like

Yea, My friend has some Paul turners on his Shee and he was getting beat most of the time, not just by me, but lots of people. I have also raced a few with these pipes and they just dont run as well as they should for the price. If you look at the pipes as they leave the cylinder, you can see they are very narrow, almost as narrow as the stock pipes. On Toomies, FMF's and others, they are almost twice the size as stock... I would really wait on the Paul turners. I know the chrome looks awesome and stays in great shape, but chrome dont get you home!

I have a 94 that has withstood everything I've thrown at it. I plan to drop a set of Vito's in (second bore) and am concerned about the bottom end. Should I have it rebuilt, welded etc.

 

Going through all this right now and all the engine builders are telling me as long as you keep it under 200 psi on compression the stock crank will work fine.
