Questions for Grizz owners
#1
I need you Grizz owner’s experience and advice.
I have compared the 660,SP700 , and the Quest 650. I have only compared features and specifications, not ridden any. The type of riding I will do is almost all trail and mountain riding. For the most part, I trail ride pretty easy. I currently own an AC 500 auto. The AC works great for what I purchased it for, farm work. However, my wife and I are now trail riding much more and the AC 500 is not a good choice for all day trail rides.
All the models I have compared are good machines and have good points and bad. However, The features I want, type of riding, and type of use that I will need, I have narrowed it down I think to the 660 and the 700.
Here are my questions: Does the Grizz have more, less, or about the same maintenance? The AC for example has sealed bearings no grease points.
I read and sometimes hear the 660 is more top heavy or less stable. I am not sure why, when looking at the specs, the seat height / width and ground clearance is about the same. Stability is very important on the side of a mountain. At least to me.
Is the lighter (600lb) weight have that many disadvantages? I could always add sandbags if I needed more weight.
Which model has the best turning radius? Easiest to steer?
Any common problems/complaints that all Grizz owners share?
After comparing the 700 and the 660 side by side at the dealer, I like the features on the Grizz such as better mud protection, digital display, looks, adjustment of shocks, large fuel tank. When comparing specs, very little difference. 660cc / 683cc, suspension and travel, rack cap. and several other items are very close.
The only real dislike I have about the 700 is the looks. Just a personal thing. I am getting tired of the sportsman look and the pod headlight thing.

I think you only have two wheel braking when you let off the throttle on the 700. Also a bunch of grease fittings. I've put 27" tires on my 02 Griz with 1.5" spacers, that makes about 50.5" in the rear. The dealers here in Maine cannot keep the new Griz in stock and they go for full list price of $6999 and if you are lucky you will get a free 2000#Warn winch. You need to test ride one. Guarantee you will like it, and I think that the resale value would be higher. Have not had any problems with mine and it was one of the first ones in the state last June. There are six grease points on the 02 Griz.

there both great quads, but i chose the grizzly. it has just as much power as the 700, alot better turning radious, and alot easier in the tight brush. it steers real easy, and is nowhere as unstable as a few have said. i put 26 in 589 titans on mine, and made the hookup unbeleavable. the 700 may ride a little better, but i put that to weight! with 2 identicle riders, the 660 would win any race, other than pulling, (the weight helps out on that). this is not saying the 700 is not a good qiad, but it doesn't even have a gas gage. if i was going to pay 300 dollars more for a quad, it should at least have accessoried as nice as the grizzly! good luck buddy, and if you get a chance, look at my pics, i would like to see the new 700 go like that, lol.

I believe the Grizz will have less maintence then the SP700. As for being top heavy, I don't feel that it is. I think it was Andy who said when you sit on the Grizz, your front plastic is so tall, that it makes you feel "higher" bacause you can't see your front wheels, thusly perhaps giving you a feeling of tip potential. I would agree with that assesment.
Going along those lines I did put offset rims and wider tires, both due to Andy's suggestions, and whatever feeling of tippiness that could possibily be percieved is certainly gone. I've gone the same places with that set up as I did stock, I just don't crease my seat near as often. Does that make sense? I might also point out, that along those same lines, I've rode my brother in laws SP700 a few times, and I actually feel "too high" sitting on that, but like you said, their specs are pretty close...so I think that issue is just rider oriented.
Between the SP700 and Grizz660, I think the biggest decision factor is rider preference, because both quads are very close in specs & performance.

You're just a crazy man on those jumps! Dang, you should get some video footage so we can all watch the whole thing. Looking at your pics reminds me of my sisters husband, he lives for that.
