Here's the deal? My banshee was stored in a shed for about 2 months? When I got it out to ride a mice had built a nest in the airbox so I cleaned it out really good and oiled the filter but it wouldnt start. I finally got it started by pulling it off but the thing would run wide open until I pulled the choke out on it and then it still idled fast. I have checked the floats, cleaned the carbs, and checked the throttle cable. I finally got it to start by disconnecting the tors but it still runs wide open. If somebody could help I would appreciate since I want to avoid the $$$ at the local yamaha shop. Thanks.

Sounds like your getting the slide stuck WOT, but that wouldn't make sense if the carbs are clean. Or maybe broken reeds? Another thing is, although I higly doubt this, your gas could be very low octane and the compresion of the motor is causing pre-detonation, which could cause it to run WOT, I think??? Also, maybe your timing is off. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Oh I forgot, a possible air leak could be to blame also. Start your motor and spary some Wd-40 where there is any sort of gasket and see if RPM's change.

Pull the filter(s) and watch your slides as you operate the throttle - are both slides going up and then all the way back down? (you should see just a small crack of the slide cutaway when the slide are all the way down) If not then your slides are sticking (and it could only be one of the slides causing the problem)OR the TORRS boxes on top are gummed up and the T cable is operating, but not responding in the TORRS linkage causing the slide(s) to stick open.

If it were mine - I'd get rid of the TORRS system anyways. We got a kit from CT Racing for a buddy's 'shee, and he hasn't had any problems - I run Lectrons on mine, so TORRS is not an issue.

I don't know if this will help but here it is anyways. On my dirt bike it did that when i blew the gasket out, same with my friends blaster. It might be that, but i highly doubt that since you haven't riden it in a long time.

Banshees are terrible machines. Everyone knows that 400 ex's destroy all yamaha products. 4oo ex's are the fastest and most reliable 4-wheeler out there.

I bet the mice scratched through those rubber boots on the back side of your carbs. i would check those out real good. its sucking in air and if you keep starting it up you may burn it up since it is lean.

I figured out the problem...when we took off the carb my brother must have messed with the screws on the top of carbs and got the idling really out of whack. Thanks for the help though. Not to start a flame or anything, but Vernon you must provide more evidence that when a person buys a 400ex the dealership shows them a video which brainwashing them into thinking they have the quickest badded atv ever. Not only will a Banshee outrun a 400ex but a Raptor will smoke one too. Ride blue or don't ride at all.

Yeah, 400ex's rock.. My buddys girlfriends got one, she loves it. My bud had been wanting to get a new quad, and took home a 01 'shee this last friday. Still just breaking it in, but I'm sure its gonna be alot slower than her 400.. Although I can't figure out why she was scared of it, maybe its those horrible shocks......... acutally you both are right! a banshee will destroy a 400ex off the line, but its power band making it quick. a 400ex is fast longer pull all thought its wider power band it will catch up and pass also the rider makes a huge difference. just my 2 cents . id bet on the 4 stroke

Are you saying that a stock 400ex will beat a stock Banshee in a drag race. If this is true why do my friends who own ex's refuse to race me. I'll be the first to admit that ex's are good on trails and in the woods but there is no way that a 400ex will beat a Banshee in a drag race....that is unless the Banshee rider has a heart attack as a result of the kick *** powerband and falls off his atv. Ride blue or don't ride at all.
