When removing the snorkel on the Raptor or the whole air box lid, they make a filter to put on the crank case tube that connects to the snorkel. What is the purpose for the filter on the tube? TIA

I believe this is a design error on the part of Yamaha. What good is the crank case breather hose when it goes straight to the airbox where it and takes in unfiltered air. Makes no since to me why Yamaha would have put the hose there. K&N makes a filter to fit on that hose to filter the air going into the crank case. Maybe its not a big deal to have unfiltered air going into crank case. I don't know, I am far from a motorhead.

It actualy blows air out through the tube into the air box and is then exaughsted through the exaughst. Maybe this is a California model only thing. Kinda like a smog pump sort of thing. ??

All raptors have that hose. It just keeps dirt out of the transmission and motor. I guess yamaha believes the airbox air is cleaner than outside the airbox.(most dirtbikes just vent straight down like a carb vent) Any standard little filter will do, then just wire tie it to the top of the airbox. Autozone sells this cool little blue anodized filter for like 8 bucks that looks sweet.

Excellent. The guy at Chaparral told me to go to any auto parts store to get a filter for the hose. Thats what i'll do. Thanks.

The breather hose exhales hydrocarbons from the crankcase only to be inhaled again by the airbox to reduce emissions. The filter keeps foreign debris out but doesn't do much for air quality.
