Raptor BigGun DynoJet
#1
Stage 2 Kit, 148 150 mains, 4th clip on needles, air/mixture screw 3 turns out, cut snorkles, back 2/3rds of air box lid cut off, biggun full exhaust. Plugs are always lean, but that doesn't neccasarily mean anything. Problem is mainly on hills, say a pretty steep hill about 30 feet high, goin up in 1st gear, by the time i get to the top its spittin and sputterin trying to die. Whats the deal ? It doesn't only do it on hills it will do it just when it feels like it. I've never adjusted the valve's. Any ideas would be greatly apreciated.

First, I would cover the air box up and re-test...maybe U are too lean. Next, I would check the float level. Do a search under the username BASH, he has a site in his signature that has the maintenance manual scanned (if U don't have a manual). Also, you really need to get those valves adjusted. Good luck.

yfm660 I have the same setup on my raptor and had the same problem on hills the longer and steeper the hill the worse it would run by the time I got to the top. I chased my jetting around for a couple months till I noticed when it was sputtering at the top there was gas coming out of the carb overflows. I checked the float levels of the carbs and they were to high I lowered the float levels a little bit now it runs fine.

Never had any problem like that with my 02 but A strange clanking noise comes from the clutch or something as soon as i hit a very steep incline not right away but as i near the top of a hill i dont know what it is. its not real loud just noticable.

ok, i didn't change the pilots yet cuz the valve adjustment took too long, i got everything back together and test drove it and it runs way better than it ever has before, the thing is, my headers get red hot now, i noticed it when i left it runnin to go in the house for a few minutes, whats this mean ?
