My friend has a '84 Yamaha YTM 225dx 3-wheeler, with electric start, and pull start backup. Now his stupid electric start is miffed anyway, but im having problems starting it with the pull start. It sat for about five years and I cleaned everything in the carb and the carb body. The only way to start it is to take off the air intake tube and hold your hand on the back of the carb and try the pull start a few times. And stop holding it when you feel gas on your palm, now when trying to start it regularly I dont think it is getting any gas. So I clean my hands off, raise the choxe lever and yank the bejesus out of the pull start. It takes off and you have to warmit up with the throttle for a minute or two, till you can bring it down slowly with your finger but if you let go of the throttle it will die. Now i have a '87 Honda 250x
and it has a choke butterfly instead of a bystarter choke as this does. There is no need to hold the back of my carb while starting it. Could someone please tell me if this hunk of junk needs a new carb or what?

When you had carb apart, did you clean out the pilot jet really good, use a torch tip cleaner and make sure the jet hole is wide open, hold up to light and look through jet. Also did you check to make sure that the passage way in float bowl is open, thats were the fuel is picked up ,it goes into choke circut, Spray carb cleaner through it. You need to have this working or otherwise you choke circut wont work. good luck
