Short story on jetting
#1
Today I recieved my two K&N clamp on filters that I have been inquiring about. A friend of mine and I tied to put them on the carbs but they wouldn't fit. So we decided to stick them in the rubber hoses that conect to the airbox, they fit. He did this as I removed the plastic to jet. I arn it down the road, checked the plug starck white. I moved to a 180 and a 170, I didn't have a 175. Got back still lean, bad. I started to think how great all this was going to be, and how much air they moved, when I got some bigger jets and finished. Then he said " you know it sure would have been less trouble if we would have oiled the filters first". Man was I hot. Pulled them off oiled them and guess what now 180 and 170 is to rich. Oh well gotta get a 175.

i hear ya. i don't know how this 180 and 190 is gonna do. they're not here yet. probably gonna be too rich. we'll see. that's what was recommended. i love this stuff. can't wait to hear how you come out on this, ward. good luck.

No they are the same size as the intakes on the carbs. They are giving me troubles that I think that I have figured out. Someone please let me know if K&N filters come pre-oiled. Right now I need a 175 and a 170, but I have already oiled the filters thinking that they weren't oiled.
On ordering some more I can't exactly tell you which ones would work correctly. I had to clamp mine in the boots that come off the carbs into the air box. If you got some with different angles or filter diameter you could clamp them right on the carb. Mine are 17 degree 2 and a 16th inch neck with a 3 1/2 inch round filter. As of now they are zip tied to the sub-frame to keep them in place.

yeah, mine was pre oiled too. just be sure you oil it with their oil. i've heard mechanics warn against using other things like motor oil. the kit to recharge is only about $10 or so.

Thanks now I feel like a total idiot because I oiled them. Do you really have to use K&N oil? This is my first run at one. I do feel better now because of how much more I can jet up. I wish they would have fit on my carbs like they were supposed to.
