can someone tell me how read the vin# on a raptor as to model year and model #,etc ?? THANKS!

 

It is very easy to tell an 02 from an 01. The 02 has a steel rear swingarm linkage and the 01 has an aluminum. Also the gearing is totally different for 1,2 and reverse. The rear shock is different too, it has the cartridge attached on the 02 (piggyback) while it is separate on the 01

 

Thanks, I already know the differences but wanted to descramble if you will the Vin# puzzle. I was curious as to what # of a 02 I had. My clutch/or trans took a $hit after only 3 weeks. IMHO the clutch never did seem to work right, neutral was almost impossible to slip into (either up or down) and reverse was a joke.

 

Look at the 10th character. For a 2002, it should be a "2".

For the year 2000, the character was a "Y", then for 2001 they used a "1" instead of a "Z".
