Knowsalot~

That really ticks me off. It's clowns like that which cause manufactures to start not giving a crap about any complaints, and likely is a major reason why they don't admit anything, because of possible liability. This guys gets a free ticket for his own screw up at Yamaha's expense, and then there's those of us who have to fight tooth and nail to get a problem taken care of by Yamaha. Go figure.

02Kodiak~

never have had that light issue on our 02 Kod.

SilverBear,

Yamaha (like every other corporation) isn't stupid. They have number crunchers that do nothing but sit around all day and do laibility versus lawsuit potential.

I'm sure they've run the numbers on just about ever scenario, and most of the time it pays to act stupid and play dumb. Lets say there are 15000 affected quads with bad lights. With parts and labor lets say it's 100 to fix each quads lights. That's 1.5 million dollars. Now lets look at this guys award. 2500 for the rest of his life. I have no idea who this guys is but lets say he's 30, he'll live on average to 70. Thats 40 years, or 480 months. At 2500 per month thats 1.2 million spread out over the next 40 years. You could buy a payment plan on this for less than a third of that up front, or $400,000. Yamaha just saved 1.1 million dollars.

It gets even worse when you look at the raptor problem. 25000 quads at $1000 each to fix, thats $25 million! Yamaha is doing it's best to act stupid and hide its head in the sand. The only problem is juries do tend to give big awards when corporations are negligent.

In recent memory I can think of GM getting hit with 101 million for not recalling gas tanks. Who only knows what the total for Ford/Firestone is going to be (but how many years did they try to hide there head in the sand?)

Corporations will only do what is in there best interests, they are money hungry bastages after all.

On top of all this I can bet you anything yamaha will challenge the verdict and try to get it knocked down, corporate america lawyers at their best.

Just my $.02

02Kodiak,

Here in Canada, you can get busted for mowing your lawn with a beer open. Or towing a trailer of dirt behind your garden tractor. Or sitting in your car, in your driveway, with the keys in the ignition and a beer open. The funny thing is that they serve beer on the golf courses, and you drive around in carts....
