a stupid question about Nitrous
#1
this may be the dumbest question I've ever asked... but here it goes anyway...
I have heard of quads that are "on the bottle" running NOS, I guess...
well... I'm sure they are all built-to-the-hilt in the first place, and probably don't even need nitrous...
but what would happen if you installed the smallest HP-increasing NOS system available on a stock 4-stroke (Raptor, EX, DS, Cannibal, Z400, etc.)??? if that's even possible
that way, you could run stock or with just bolt-ons for reliablity, yet have like 20 extra horses if so needed to smoke most tweaked-out quads... theoretically of-course

If you could get a kit it would be possible. You would need to run fuel in it like c12 to keep the engine from detonating. Nitrous is dificult to tune as well you need to dump more fuel into the engine when you spay it which is hard to do. It would also wear the engine more quickly. But I think the stock components such as connecting rods and crank would handle it I would be worried about the pistons. All depends on what they are made of. Iknow my stock mustang will take a 200 shot and stay together with hyperutectic pistons.

yes it is possible , nos makes a universal sneaky pete kit that bolts on with ease. The kit with a 1LB bottle costs about $425.I got some info on the nos raptor set up if your interested.( I would suggest going to a wiesco piston and rod before throwing on nos, im not sure a stock piston and rod would hold up.)

one more thing, there are no stupid questions.....at least that's what i hear. from what i understand the "safest" range to run nos in a quad is only about 15-20hp which explains why people such as myself mod the engine rather than puting a bottle on it. plus the way i ride i would be going broke refilling it.

bansheeguru, who told you your stock hyperutectic pistons will hold up to a 200 shot. when my mustang was still stock excessive motorsports told me not to run over a 75 shot and I have a 1989(87-89 used forged pistons) I would be carefull if you are running a 200 shot. I have all forged internals(DSS 331 stroker) and I am running a 125 shot now.

I was spraying the almost 4000 lb Buick (see signature) with the small jets off a Big shot system. Around 225hp. with nothing but stock crank, rods and TRW pistons for almost 7 years without a problem and running 10s with 130+ mph in the quarter. Correct Fuel pressure, jetting and volume is definetely the key to success.
