Don't listen to your dealer, he isn't accurate with his information. The top-end of the Raptor (and Grizzly 660, for that matter) has been used for a number of years in the European market in streetbikes. These versions of the 660 are less restricted than the ATV and produce around ~60hp stock. The only confirmed engine problem with the Raptor is a weak transmission in the early 2001 models. The 2002 Raptors have a stronger tranny design and better gear ratios (and also a different rear shock, lighter linkage system, and stronger rear axle).
Both the current Raptor and DR-Z should be reliable, yet the Raptor definately has more performance potential engine-wise (no replacement for displacement).
