Banshee is backfiring/sputtering??

But isn't that what the grovve is for in the slide - so they mate with the set screw sticking out in the bore of the carb. i thought this prevents you from putting them in "backwards"?? Are there 2 grooves on the slide 180 degrees from each other?? Do you think the slides are installed 180 degrees turned, and that's my problem??
thanks again...this is driving me crazy...and i want to ride this weekend!!!

Did you have the slides off at all?
If not then I think they are intalled backwards. It is a easy mistake...hell these guys have a lot more experience than I do and it stumped the three of them for over an hour. What happens is that it seems like the slide goes all the way down but it isn't. I would not do many more pleasure rides until you get this fixed.

the half moon radius you seen should not be seen from the air box is the correct way the should be in.if both carbs have the slides in the proper way then you're to lean on the idle circuit.i would go up one or two sizes on the pilot jet.it's easier and safer to start out a little rich then lean.that is where your backfiring is coming from.or you can turn your air fuel screws out on the sides of the carb and if you end up turning them out more then 4 turns from bottom the you need to go up thenext size on your pilot.then adjust you air screw again.when you have it jetted right ,your air screw should be between 1 1/2 turns to 2 1/1 turns out.once you have thje right pilot jet ,use your air fuel adjustments to fine tune the low end for throttle response and clean accellaration.
