Chains&Sprockets
#1
Has anyone used the sidewinder staonless or Ti series sprockets or chains? I was thinking of getting some but before I dropped that much on them I wanted some input from people who have used them before. Do they really hold up that long?

heres the deal with all chains and sprockets.the key to a long cahin and sprocket life is the chain.get a good chain, and always replace the sprockets when you replace the chain.otherwise you will get premature wear on the chain.the stainless series is not really any better then a steel sprocket.if you buy a good o-ring chain and you put on new sprockets at the same time they should easily last you 1 1/2 -2 years before they need replacing.maybe even longer if you treat them good.the biggest enemies to a short chain life is ,mud, overtightening them, lack of lube.so if you keep them clean ,adjusted and lubed they should last you a long time.i race semi pro motocross and i hardly wear out chains and sprockets.i usually replace them before they are worn just for precautionary measures .and then my friends scoop up my old stuff and run them for a whole summer trail riding and playing.

o.k. here's the deal with sidewinder...i ordered my 12 tooth sprocket, i can't remember if it what the heck it was made from, but i kept it adjusted just right and always plenty of pj-1 and when i went to put my 13 back on for a little bit one day i noticed one tooth was broken off the $50 sprocket. it hadn't been on probably 2 months. it was broken off down into the spocket's body! possibly a pebble got between the sprocket and chain but hey they are supposed to be soooo tough. anyway, i called them and told them what happened, he said "well, when you deal with bikes with that much horsepower these things are bound to happen." i could only imagine if they made sportbike sprockets. then the guy offered to cut me a deal on a new set. "no thanks" i don't want a "deal" i want what i paid for. a buddy of mine told me before hand that they weren't that great. he never cared much for them when he raced motocross. i understand that anything can break but if you claim such strength and definately charge for it then hey stand by your product. my advice is to look somewhere else. just my 2 cents. had they replaced it then this would read very different.

Thanks ya'll. I did a search on sidewinder a came up with a story like that on a Polaris. I thought it might just be a one time thing but from what you say it doesn't look that way. I guess I'll just get a DID or something.
