Frame Broke

1986: I understand your point about the gussets not adding that much weight, but what I was trying to stress is the severity of the break. If he used this frame and welded it, the majority of it would have to be heated and staightend. This would temper the steel making it more brittle, to my knowledge, and then would be weak in that spot. This would require alot of gusseting to make me feel safe on it again. Thanks for the pics and I do agree that buying a new frame and strenghtening it would be the right way to go, I just have to try and get him to see that.

I guess I misunderstood you a little... I wouldn't recommend trying to fix his existing frame if it is very severe, especially with the low cost of a replacement OEM frame.

If he gussets a new OEM frame, he shouldn't have any more trouble...
