Is it your first oil change on a brand new motor?

If this is your first oil change, it is normal. During the engine break-in period, there is a little wear until the normal operating tolerances are reached. You may even see a little bit of metal in the second oil change, but not alot. If your quad is over a year or two old, and been ridden hard for a while without an oil change, there may be a problem. Put in a new filter (or clean the old one on your Warrior). Ride it for 10 hours and check the oil filter again. If there's still a problem, take it to a mechanic.

If it continues, have the oil analyzed for $15 and you will know where it is coming from.

Have you followed the recommended oil change pattern? I know when you dont ride often its easy to overlook and forget the oil. You shouldnt bash Yamaha because of one problem. There is a warrior in my family that has been great for 6 years, no rebuild, just change the oil reguarly and keep a fresh plug in it ( ole habits are hard to kick ) , and it runs great....

If it's not your first oil change you are starting to seize your crank bearing. Did you ride extremly hard for an extended period of time??? Think for a minute. Is it alot of meatal?? I speak from experience on two different Warriors, my friends and mine. Sorry for the bad news...

Every bigbear and warrior I have ever changed the oil in has had filings in oil filter. It is actually from the starter gears when they hit the ringear and they create filings. My 1989 warrior and my dads 1993 bigbear which we both bought brand new did this from day one. We both still own these machines and have never had motor problems. I have friends with wolverines and kodiaks that do the same thing. Don't worry about it. Your warrior has pretty much a bulletproof motor.

I've NEVER found metal shavings in my Kodiak oil. Not even with the first Change. I would think if you found shavings with every oil change you have a problem. Family members have bigbears and wolverines and we've never seen any shavings. We usually do all the quads at once at my brother-in-laws garage. An excuse for a few drinks and a laugh or two. (After the oil changes of course)
