Hey,

still looking for a cheap 4wheeler. saw this in the bargain trader:

97' Warrior 350 - motor disassemblied

this raises a couple of questions. one of which is why was the motor taken apart? that can probably only be answered by the owner. any guesses on what went wrong? siezed piston maybe?

assuming that whatever was wrong has been fixed, how much work is required to put the motor back together? and is it worth $700?

will i've got the motor apart, are there any upgrades i could do to gain some power? riding buddies are Scrambler 500's, Raptor 660, Scrambler 400 2stroke, and a 300EX. don't want to get beaten too badly.

thanks,
bigmac

700 is a steal. motor apart or not.

if its the just the top end thats apart, its easy as pie, but if its the bottom, look out for any case cracks/holes, broken/chipped gears or missing pieces like starter or stator/flywheel.

if you buy it and think its too much for ya to do, I'll give ya 800 for it

A friend of mine bought an $800 Mojave that had a disassembled motor-he spent more than $1000 in parts and labor to get the thing running again and it is still a piece of crap.
It was missing a lot of motor parts-misc. bolts, etc-which is kinda hard to tell until you go to put it back together.
I would definitley get someone knowledgeable to look at it first-also if you can't do the work yourself make sure you get an estimate first-could end up spending a whole lot more than a running used one would have cost you.

Hey,

i've got a friend who works at a dealership. he's going to school to be a certified technician. so i might could get him to look at it with me. and hopefully help me put it back together.

there was another atv for cheap. it's a 97' Honda 300 fourtrax. said it needed rear end work. $600. those are shaft drive right? so do they use a ring/pinion gear or what? it might actually be the cheaper one to get rolling again, but considering who i ride with, it would be so much slower unless i did a big bore kit or something. and there goes the cheap part. lol

can you buy a factory service manuel or something that details how the motor goes together with all the specs and stuff?

thanks,
bigmac

Hey,

and since i'm on the topic of cheap fun, i've got one other question. probably not the right forum though.

there's also a: Honda Odyssey - frame and motor - some fire damage - $100. it can't be in very good shape, but then again it's only $100. doesn't mention a year. obviously needs work, but it's also a good chance to build something the way you want it. if it were up to you, would you rather build the Odyssey or the Warrior?

If you want to have "cheap fun" and still roost your buddies, get an old liquid cooled trike. I prefer the 85-86 ATC250R, but you may not. Anyway you can pick these up in mint conditon for under $2000. I got mine for $900 and it was mint when I got it. If you do go that route, make sure you know how to ride, because these things are pretty damn fast and can be tippy if you don't use proper body english.

Hey,

3wheelers aren't quite for me. a little too tippy for me right now. maybe if i had more experience on them. but thanks for the suggestion!

the ad said the warrior also had new tires, so i can mark that off the list also.

i was thinking about this. my riding buddies are Polaris Scrambler 500's, a Raptor 660, Scrambler 400 2stroke, 300EX. since the engine is already apart, is there a big bore kit for the warrior? cost? i'd really like to be as fast or faster than the Polaris guys.

thanks,
bigmac
