Hey guys, still having some carb problem on my '99 Wolverine. Some of you helped me when I was trying to install the jet kit a few weeks ago. Well I got totally frustrated and decided to pay $65.00 to let the dealer adjust it for me. I had installed a Pro-Flo air-filter system (leaving the top of the airbox off) and a Dynojet kit. Well I picked it up last Friday and here are the results:
It has a nice increase in mid-range power and surprised me alot! I'm very impressed. I'm now eyeing the FMF Megamax muffler for it....anyhow it's still not running just right...for one thing it won't idle worth a crap. It's always been cold natured but even after riding for an hour it still won't idle and when it does it's very inconsistent. Now when I try to choke it(when it's cold) it better not be in gear because it will just take off without me even touching the gas! Is this normal? It didn't do this when it was stock. Another thing it was doing was when I was in a low RPM situation such as crossing a creek or tree or something sometimes it would lunge and the motor would skip, i know it sounds funny but it sounded like the motor was gasping for air, but it would only do it for about 3 seconds at a time and usually stall out.

so what should I do now? Take it back to the dealer and tell him to adjust it again? Or is this something I could easily check out? Any comments/criticisms/humor send away thanks!

If your bike wont idle when warm its because the pilot circut is too lean. You will have to adjust the mixture screw to richen it up a little more. If the dealer went by the installation instructions from Dynojet Thats probably the problem. They will tell you to set your mixture screw to a specific setting . This may work good on one bike but it may have to be adjusted on another to work properly. What you can do is set the mixture screw to 2 turns out from seated. Warm up the bike and shut the choke off . If the bike stalls, set up the idle speed to get a low idle for the present time. Then turn the mixture screw in slowly and see what happens. If the idle gets higher keep going until the idle starts to drop off then stop.If the idle starts to drop when you start to turn the screw in then stop and start to slowly turn it out until you get the highest idle possible. Basically you have to adjust the screw to achieve the highest idle possible, then lower your idle speed screw to a nice low but stable idle. Dont confuse the two screws. one is for idle speed and one is for idle mixture. the reason the bike wants to take-off with the choke on is that the choke will richen the engine causing the idle to go up. This is normal. Good luck, its not as hard as it sounds. ( Personally I think a jet kit is a waste of money that could be spent on something better to increase power) just my opinion. The kit for my 95 Wolverine doesnt even work!!! And dynojet cant seem to tell me why. By the way, removing your airbox lid will give you a better power improvement than installing a jet kit anyway.
P.S. Buy the FMF pipe, you will like what it does to the bike but put on all 11 discs for the best bottom end and midrange power.Dont run it open. It wont increase the power nearly as much.
