Sorry guys. My Dealer has a 2003 limited edition Kodiak on his show room floor and I had a pretty good look. There's no IRS!!! The only real difference I've seen was a cover plate around the rear disk brake. There's also no differential locker on the 2003 model. Maybe 2004 will bring us our IRS and diff lock.

Again sorry to have to bring you all the bad news.

I have been dealing with my local dealer now for 15 years. I was looking at buying a new 02 Kodiak but since I have spent so much money on Yamaha stuff he pulled me aside and said to wait because the new Kodiak is going to be a 500cc, be smaller sized like the existing Kodiak, but will have the IRS setup like the Grizzley. Another guy thought he saw a 03 but was mistaken. I will be waiting to see for sure but he has never been wrong before.

Alright, the Kodiak won atv of the year 2 years ago right? Its one of yamaha's best sellers, so why in the hell would they change it? They wouldn't. Ever hear the saying...if it aint broke dont fix it? Well the same applies to the Kodiak. If u want all that stuff then shell out the extra money for a Grizzly. Sorry to sound mean but come on people...u cant have everything.

I'm telling you the truth guys. I'm in Nova Scotia and the dealership is called Adventure Motors. They have a black 2003 Limited Edition Kodiak on the show room floor. We recently had an outdoor show and he had it in for that. They have price tag of $7999 Canadian on it...after a $1000 discount. This is the only 2003 kodiak they have so must have been sent to them special for the show. I'd take a photo for you if I had a digital camera.

Trust me...I was praying just as much as everyone else for that 500cc machine with IRS and diff lock. Maybe they decided to bring it out under a different name...lets hope.

Sure it is one of the best sellers, but you also can't go on with a good quad and never change anything. Like the banshee, sweet quad, but hasn't changed in years, and you see, everyone is movin on to the new stuff.
Yamaha has nothing in the 500cc range, but they have two in the 400cc, big bear, kodiak. So if they were to make a move to 500cc range, why not use a name everyone knows and that has proven it's self already.
The Kodiak would be perfect to release as a new 500 for yamaha.

I agree polarisman... lets hope my dealer is full of you know what. I know that if he sold me that 2003 and it turned out to be a 2002, I'd be royally ticked off. He'd have to do some serious dancing to keep me from pressing fraud charges.

Oh, and if it was a 2003, it could be like the Sportsman 500, the first 2001's were the original 500, then they released the H.O. halfway through the summer

I can't see Yamaha doing that...it would really PO anyone who bought the 2003 models early on. But I must admit it seems really early for the dealer to have a 2003. I think I might pop in and ask about the 2003 and see what he has to say.
