I used to use a hacksaw blade. The easiest way to do it is to gr ab the blade with some pliers, heat it with a small torch, and it'll melt right through, although it takes awhile and the blade bends easily. Then get a big flat file to get the final shape and even things out, and use a fine grit sand paper to smooth up the edges.

I have used three different things the first two, don't laugh, were a wood saw and a hacksaw. They work but not very smooth. The next thing and if you don't have one get one is a Dremmel tool. There are 1,000 uses for one cutting fenders or polishing anything on your quad they work great. After awhile you will find uses for it all the time. Pick one up at Wal-Mart for about $60 for the variable speed kind.

I started with the cut off wheel. They used a sanding drum. I have not tried any of the polishing bits yet but it might help a little. The sanding drum works pretty good. Becarefull of the angle you hold it because the cut off wheel canleave VERY sharp edges, I know from exp.
