With your personal excpierences what is the best tire for seirous mudding.

 

I have a set of Gateway High-Lifter outlaw mud tires on my 2001 Kodiak and absolutely love them!! I bought the bike used and they came with it so price is a definite issue because the retail for approx. $110ea. But they do the job I've driven through mud holes about @ feet deep and they did just fine, Gave me sense of security about where I can go and that;s about anywhere. Good luck with your search.

 

i put maxxis sur tracs on my warrior and so far they are great in the mud. i went riding with my buddy one day and we were messing around in the mud, lets just say that i could go through what he couldn't without putting his suzuki in 4x4.

 

Depends on what you put them on and what kind of mud your talking about. I live in Mississippi around a lot of hill mud, gumbo, swamps and creeks. If your talking about a big bore such as the griz, I would go with the 28 inch vamps with 2" lugs or 28 inch outlaws. The 28 inch bi and tri claw combo is also very effective but is edged out a little by the others. For a medium bore quad such as the Kodiak or BB, I recommend the 12" 10" vampire combo with the 1" lugs. If your talking about tires for your 300ex i would go with some bearclaws. I am speaking from personal experience. I have seen almost every "mud tire" in action and those combos have been the best.

 

02Kodiak is right I see those sur tracks in mags alot but put them in some of Ms finest gumbo and they would be a big ball.

 

I had Blackwaters on my 250x... not very good in South La. mud.

I plan on going with ITP 589s, will prob order them at the end of the summer, and keep my stockers for trail riding

 

How big are you guys in on mudding. How hard is it and how do you get the atv out after its been stuck. I been researching alot lately and i've haerd that those new maxxis mud tires are awesome,whats you input has anyone tried them. I was also reading about highlifters new tire,looks well designed. I was talking aboutt he big bore quads when i asked my question but now i'm thinkin about lookin into some of those bearclaws.Thanks alot

 

My group is huge on mudding. This is gonna get lengthy so beware. These are the quads I ride with almost every weekend.

3 Kodiaks Including myself. All with Oxlite Bumpers, 2000lbs warn winch, and 26" vamps
1 Rubicon all factory cause he just got it last week
2 Rubicons with 2000lbs warns and vamps
1 Rubicon with 28x12 outlaws on back and 28x10 vamps on front with warn 2500lbs
2 Foreman 450S with vamps
1 Foreman 450S with 28x10 vamps with the 2" lugs and 2000lbs winch
1 Griz 660 with Bi and Tri claw setup with Oxlite bumper
1 Griz 660 with stock tires and 2500lbs warn
2 Griz 600's one gators and the other with vamps both 28" all the way around (i think)
1 Polaris 500HO with 28x12 vamps all the way around and 2500lbs warn
1 Kawie 650 with stock tires and 2500lbs warn
2 Older Honda 300 4x4's one with vamps and the other some crappy tires
2 Ranchers one with stock and the other 25" vamps
3 Big Bears 2 with stocks and one with 26x10 vamps and 2000lbs winch
2 Kawie 300 Prarie 4x4's one with titan 589's and the other spider tracs both with warn 2000lbs
1 Zuki Vinson with stock tires
1 AC 500 with 28x12 outlaws on back and 28x10 outlaws on front, blocked warn 2500lbs, lift kit
1 bayou 300 with bearclaws
1 bayou 220 with bearclaws
1 yamaha breeze with a 300lbs rider (funniest thing i've ever seen)

I think thats all. Winches are great investment if you plan on doing a lot of mudding. I'm also ready to see those new radial outlaws in action. Bearclaws are a great choice though. Seen them proven on those 2wd's time and time again.

 

Just from what i have seen...

The mudrunners seem to do ok (sp700) and the ITP 589's do a GREAT job in the mud. The only concern that i have with the ITP is that a couple of people have complained about them being "off round" from the factory. Some sellers will replace the tire, but i am not real sure if it was a wheel problem or a true TIRE problem.

I chose the Dirt Devils for me. The price was almost 40$ a tire cheaper and they are 6 ply tires. My neighbor rides a 400 polaris and has the DD's on his bike (loves them). Another neighbor has a big bear 2x4 with the DD's on the back. He is a nut. He rides alot of power lines and around here...the saplings are HARD on a tire. He has had several different tires on that bike, and the DD's are the only ones that havent had a flat. He has had them since last spring and is one of those guys that rides his bike to work...lol I swear, he must have 100,000 miles on that bike and its only 2 years old! (that is a joke by the way).

Another tire that i have heard alot of good things about is the Gators. No personal experience with them and havent seen them in action. But trust the friends that i have on what they say.

i like my tsl super swampers. i think that they are above average for mud tires for any type of mud. i do have trouble sometimes in swamp mud but for a 250 beartracker i do very well in the mud. i have a friend who has a 250ex with vampire super swampers and he can get through mud a little better than i can. just remeber to keep on it when ever your in the mud cuz your tires will clog up and then its all over.
