I've been readings the forums for about 6 months trying to decide which atv to buy. It came down to the grizzly or the Artic cat 500i because of their suspension and auto. I got a decent deal on the grizz so thats what I'm riding, great power and suspension. Picked it up Friday and rode about 40 miles over the weekend. please tell and old dirt bike rider that you eventually get used to the thumb throttle.
Keep the information coming I'm sure I'll have questions for you more experienced riders.

thumb cramp is a new term used by us atv owners, kind of like nintendo thumb cramp, but without the scores, lol. it takes some time to adjust too, and the cramping you may incounter will subside over time. it is a great feature on a quad though, due to the need to hang on over rough terrain you will sertainly incounter on your new beast!!!
try to remember the break in procedures you have written down in your book, and follow them for the longjevity of your quad! sorry bout the spelling!

if you can't stand the throttle buy one of those extenders for it. i think they have them in Denniskirk.com i have heard they help a lot.

If there is just no way for you to get over the thumb throttle, I'm sure you will be able to get a twist throttle conversion for it somewhere(especially magazines). But, I think that if you just give it a little time and you will get used to it. Enjoy!

mocycle2001~

Congrats on the baddest bear in the woods. You will get used to the thumb throttle after time, if not there are conversion kits available through aftermarket stores. I would think twice before converting, though. As Mich indicated, some areas that you will eventually find yourself in require both hands on the grips. For instance....lock your front end and get yourself in a jam....the last thing you'd want to have to try to do is work your throttle by twisting. Just my opinion....

I appreciate the encouragement guys. I found out sunday that I have a bent rear rim or something, the left rear wobbles. I'm taking it back to the dealer today. by the way Kraw I'm far from young but thanks anyway. What is a good aftermarket oil filter & number.

I got the same problem, My left wheel wobbles. I looked at the tire and it looks like the bead is comming apart in a small section of the rim. Like the rim was not true.

Twist throttles on atv's, particularly utility quads don't work very well. You have to use your arms to steer these things which negates the twist and becomes a herky-jerky deal. I tried it several years ago. If you want to save your thumb a bit you can take some 1" aluminum stock and bolt to the thumb throttle. With some care and technique it will look factory stock and then you can use your hand area below the thumb for the throttle, particularly on long hauls. One caution though. These longer, larger throttles can be a little dangerous. Your hand does not move as quickly as your thumb, it's easier to screw up.

CONGRATS ON THE NEW BEAR!!!!

The thumb crap goes away very very quickly...and as everyone else has stated, i would stay away from the twist throttle.

What's the deal with those rear rims????

Mike? are you getting yours back to the dealer to have them take a look at it?

Mocycle....please let us know what the dealer says on your rim.

I just had the Dirt Devils put on today!!! i pick the bike up tomarrow and hope that i dont have a "wobble" with mine!

My wife's doesnt seem to have a wobble and mine didnt with the stockers on it.

PS: Three day weekend coming up guys...where is everyone going to go ride!!!

Would love to hear the stories and see the pics of everyones favorite trails...i have alot more exploring to do, but i will post some pics of the places that i liked most. Waiting for some film to get developed first!!! and waiting for the weekends.
