Well I finally picked up my '02 Kodiak yesterday! After waiting weeks to get it I'm now officially a proud owner of this beauty.

Just wanted to share with you guys. Any tips on breaking it in? I'm basically following the manual. I'm not going over half throttle for the first 10 hours and 3/4 from 10-20 hours.
I'm also using varying speeds so the valves seat right.

Any other tips?

Make sure to check/tighten the large black tube that comes down from under the front rack and connects to the transmission. These are known to shake loose allowing water to fill the transmission area. Once you tighten this, it will not be a problem. For some reason, the factory misses over this on quite a few Kodiaks.

Re-oil the air filter. Most air filters come too dry from the factory/dealer.

I would change the oil and filter after the first 5 hours too.

Good Luck and enjoy. The Kodiak is a fun machine. I still have one and sold the other to get the Raptor.

congrats on you new machine.

ATVMadman,
is this your first quad? just wondering becasue most people with new quads don't pay any attention to the break in factor and end up kicking themselves in the @ss when their machines get older and start breaking down earlier than they should. i don't blame you though.

Yes this is my first quad. I just want it to last and take care of it. I'm going on my first trail ride this weekend with some friends and I can't wait.
