I know I need to do some major getting into shape. I'm come from the Netherlands but I've lived in America most of my life. I have seemed to keep the European build but I have the American eating habits . I eat A LOT and sit around on my @ss a lot watchin TV (that may just be more of a Texas habit ) but I only weigh about 155 lbs and I"m 6'1". I like my size but I need to trade some of the "fat" for muscle because I get WAY worn out on the mx tracks. I think I'm gonna start running and maybe I'll actually do some chores around the house .

I'm 6'3" and weigh 180lb. I have kept this the same for the past 5 years without trying. I eat a sausage and biscuit for breakfast, a fast food meal for lunch and hamburger and fries for supper. That's it. Simple and cheap..LOL

As for staying in shape for racing. Riding every weekend will do that without lifting any weights or excercise because quad riding is a workout on it's own. You just don't realize it because you are having fun. That's the good thing.

Two days before a Hare Scramble event, I drink about two gallons of water a day to keep from de-hydrating during the two hour's of hell. During the race I have a Camelback that I keep a 50/50 mix of Gatorade and water in.

Works for me.

Everybody acts like carbs are so bad for you when really they aren't if you use them. Carbohydrates contain sugar like fructose and surcrose as well as some proteins. Now if you eat TOO MANY carbs in a day then yes they are bad for you. Eating a lot of protein is only good for you up untill a certain point. Eating too much protein over long period's of time can cause a person to develop kidney problems as well as a high intake of calcium can cause this too.

I wouldn't advise getting into the wonder pills and things like that. For example some people take Stacker to burn off fat. At least they think that's what it does. Stacker contains Asprin and caffene mostly. Asprin isn't necissarly bad for you but the caffene is. Caffene is a diaretic which actually takes energy away from your body. Caffene causes your blood vessels to constrict thus raising your heart rate and increasing your blood pressure. Ever wonder why some people who are in great shape and have had no histroy of heart problems get heart attacks? This is why.

Some things like creaotine (sp?) are somewhat good for you. They increase your muscles ability to operate without oxygen longer and once the areobic affect comes into play it allows your muscles to make better use of the oxygen. The long term affects of creaotine have yet to be seen though. You might want to look into increasing your intake of vitamins A, C, D, and B complex.

Basically what I'm saying is if you do a short fast workout eat fatty foods before and afterwards. If you do a long exersize like conditioning eat proteins but not too much.
