I own a 1996 Yamaha Blaster and i was wondering. Are there simple ways to make it faster without spending a whole lot?

Hey Yamaha Blaster,
I was wondering the same. I have the Aprl issue, but i haven't seen the March one yet. I guess i'll try going to Barns and Noble to see if they cary it cause none of the Krogers or Food Lions cary DIRTWEELS MAG. anymore (is sucks), well see ya guys.

A Blaster can be made faster, but you'll have to spend a little money.

On my Son's Blaster, we started with a pipe, K&N filter, and rejetted the carb. Simultaneously, we ported the cylinder, and shaved the head. This made a considerable improvement in power.

While we had the engine apart, we converted to pre-mix, and eliminated all the oil injection system. This does not make more power, but rather ensures that oil gets to the motor.

Just recently, we pulled the cylinder and did a little more porting, and shaved the head, and recut the combustion chamber to increase the compression a little more, plus bump up the power even further.

VForce reeds were installed, plus a carb is on order, which I hope will arrive this week.

With the current setup, and stock carb, in loose sand, the Blaster is equal with a friends stock 400EX when they are ran without paddles (Holeshots and Ohtsu radials). On terrain where traction is better, I would expect my Son's Blaster to be slightly faster. I am hoping the 35PWK carb will really help with the top end and improve things even further.

Regards,

Rog
