do you stock any tranny parts for 02 raptor? I am upgrading my 01 tranny that is broke, dealer has it torn down and 2 parts are back ordered! the part # are as follows
5lp-17231-10-00 3rd gear
5lp-17243-10-00 reverse gear

looking like I will have to put a 01 back in if I don't get the parts because the dealership can't take up the space waiting for god only knows how long while I wait for parts..
any suggestions?

Sorry lafngas, I don't stock parts for the '01 or '02 Raptor transmission. In fact, I don't carry transmission parts at all. When one goes bad, regardless of model, you never know what is damaged until you get in there. It would cost tens of thousands of dollars to keep trans. parts for different models, and I would rather use that money for hot seeling items like nerfs and bumbers,etc.etc.

Yamaha is the only brand that doesn't offer their dealers "Parts Locator" access to track down dealers in the U.S. that have back ordered parts in their stock. All the other brands offer this to their dealers. The only thing you can do is to call different Yamaha dealers yourself.

Call Micky Dunlap and see if he has those parts in stock in his shop. He has been retrofitting the '02 transmission to the '01 models for the past couple of months. You never know...he just might have them.

Good Luck in finding those parts.

thanks for the reply knowsalot, looks like I will have to put the 01 parts back in because the reverse gear won't be in intil the 8th and the 3rd gear won't be in intil the 15th of May. I called Mickey and his answering machine said he was out intil Thursday...! I also called Curtis Sparks Racing and they did have the 3rd gear wheel but its really to little to late dealer can't wait. The gear will be in on the 8th but by the time the dealer gets it will be 7 more days so would hold up shop intil at least the 15 before all the parts are in and there is still put together time.......I guess the bottom line is this kinda SUCKS.....i know it will break the dogs off 2nd gear again but what do you do?

WAIT until you can get the superior '02 parts, that's what you do. This is really a no brainer. NO DAMN WAY I would ever put those inferior '01 POS parts back in my motor after going to the expense of tearing it down! (unless you relish the thought of doing this all over again when your trans inevitably grenades once again)

lafngas, I agree with scottd, You are the one paying for the work, get the parts you want not the parts they want to put in to get a quicker turn around time! You should be miffed because the lack of parts is cutting in to your riding time! Get the parts you want! Theres no reason to not put the 02 gears in now. The reason it's taking up shop space is your $6500+ quad broke & they don't have the parts! It's not your fault so don't let them bully you! Don't be an A$$ about it but firmly tell them they are going to have to keep it until it's fixed to your satisfaction with the parts you want!

Knowsalot, I don't think he'd be out of line making this request(it's what I'd do), But I don't have a shop with a quad taking up space. Does this sound unreasonable to you? (& yes I relise it's not your shop doing the work).

What ever happened to customer service?

I agree that you definately wait. You paid big money for an awesome quad and you should be treated right. Get the 02 gears. It's not your fault that they are backordered.

Yup. Make them wait. You are not the first owner of a machine which has had parts which are back ordered.

Is this warranty work? If not, I can't imagine any dealer knowingly forcing you to put inferior parts back into a quad because the better ones are two weeks away...

If it is on your dime, don't put up with anything.

If it's on Yamaha's dime, tell them you don't want a defective transmission that is going to blow up 3 days out of warranty. You want it fixed right. Either that or have Yamaha put it in writing that if the tranny goes again, and these parts are chewed up again, that it's covered under warranty. Or put the 02 parts in it.

Don't get pushed around on this.
