Ok I have a '02 Kodiak and I've had it for about a week and a half.

I'm not machanically inclined what so ever but I'm learning.

Anyway, I have a squeak when it's moving I think it's the brakes. What do I have to do to adjust that? I've never messed with brakes before and I really can't afford to take it to the shop.

Also, I'm almost due for my first oil change and do I have to use Yamalube or can I use QuakerState and be fine?

Stick w/ Yamalube or equivilant atv oil only. If the brakes are squeaking, it will go away w/ use. It is prolly the shock mounts squeaking which can be cured w/ some grease, may have to take them off to grease.

Yes like JHAM says, are you sure it's not the front shock absorber mounts? Mine squeak like crazy when dirt gets in there after riding in mud or water. I spray them out with a pressure washer every now and then and it makes the noise go away until they get dirty again. Been putting up with it for two years with no further trouble than my own aggravation!

My shock mounts skweeked too untill I looseded the upper mounts a half a flat. They are over tightened. Just loosen them up and tighten them back up, but not like a gorrilla.

The squeak in my 2000 Kodiak was the front/lower shock bushings. After removing each bushing, cleaning it, and packing it with water proof grease, the noise has not returned.

Default Kodiak Squeak

I use regular motor oil in my 2001 Kodiak ( Mobil 1 or Penzoil) 10W30 or 10W40 depending on the weather.
