I'm looking at buying a 99 banshee in excellent condition. It has brand new rear and front tires, razors sp?, and new brakes all the way around. $$ is $2680.00, the guy just wants what he has in it as he's building a porch. I usually speculate on utilities and do ok but not too many sport quads. It's bone stock and never been tore into and will fly, I see why they are so popular. It was put up and stored over a year also. Can I rotate this bike after a few months and do ok?? The nada is $4000.00 high retail. I'd like to ride it a few months and sell it for about $3k or so. Is the chain setup pretty dependable?? It and the cogs look good and an O ring chain. I've had a polaris w/ a weak chain design and wonder if this one is more reliable. Any info. much appreciated.

Does he have a title and bill of sale for it?
Sounds pretty cheap to me.
The Banshees are pretty reliable if left in stock condition, or if a reputable engine builder has done the work to it.

He didn't bother getting the title from the guy but he supposedly has it and is getting it. No title, no deal to me cause they aren't worth near as much without the title. I'm just concerned about the chain reliability and ease of selling due to a sport bike. I know a lot of people have them and like them. All the plastic is excellent except where one side hooks onto the footpeg, just needs a bolt. The swingarm is tight and the bike is straight. Thanks for the reply and any other insight appreciated.

Jham, don't worry about the chain; there is no problem with that. Check it out, bring a compression tester if you have one and make sure it's at least, oh more than 115 PSI or so (stock is 130 PSI at sea level). Check both cylinders too. Everything else is the stuff you would normally check on a quad.

I guess WV isn't exactly prime Banshee territory huh? Bring it out West if you want to sell it later.

I don't have a compression tester, but rode it and feels solid. Clutch and compresson seem fine. The motor has never been tore into and no mods at all. I am a little concerned w/ the manual clutch on some of these hills around here but heard they climb good. If he gets the title I'll probably score it, any other info. or things to look for appreciated. Not too much flat, level land here. It would be hard to open it up. I've never rode a quad w/ that much pull in fifth gear. I've said it before, Yamaha is the only manufacturer with enough ba11$ to build a bike like that.
