I was looking at some web sites and this guy has a sweet raptor with his side case polished or chromed out and looks very sweet. What do I have to use to do it? And how hard would it be??? please help me.

you'll have to take off the side covers and use paint stripper to get the factory paint off. Then wet sand the aluminum and use a polish to shine it up. Try to get Speedy polish if it's in your area. This is a high grade polish that is easy to apply and has a protectant in it. I did my swingarm and it turned out mint.

I dont know if you were looking at my web site but I have my side cases polished too. There is a way of doing it without taking off the side cases and breaking the gaskets.

I didn't take my cases off either and didn't use paint stripper, I wish I would have. I did the whole thing with a dremel tool. It took forever but it looks good now. First I used a wire wheel to remove the paint. Then used a felt wheel and polishing compound to polish it. The paint stripper would be alot easier! If you do it with the covers on I found it easier to remove the footpegs at the start. Now I just do a little touch up with Mothers polish which is pretty good stuff too.

I would suggest just doing the side parts. It is too hard to get all the rest of the side cases. I did my throtle housing and it was a bitch to get to all the little places. This is what I did I got some dish washing gloves because that stuff will burn the hell out of you. use duct tape the silver kind or some other heavy tape. Mask around the round parts where you want to polish.Spray aircraft paint remomer just on the area you want to polish. Let it sit for awhile. Take real fine steel wool and the paint comes right off.- THE POLISH PART- Go to Sears get a four pack of jewelers regue. Whilt-brown-black-red. take off your foot pegs and foof guards. put a buffing wheel on a good power drill and start with the black compond thats like rough sand paper. than brown thats medium sand paper. then white your last final polish do it good and when you get scratched up after riding all you do is take mothers polish to it. This is classified information and I will probably get shot for telling you this. www.geocities.com/thomas7197/Raptor.html

Take the side covers off.It is really easy and send them to the pro's you won't be sorry. I send all my work to Universal plating in Morgansfield KY. They will look a whole lot better than you can do yourself and with a good polish you won't have as much up keep.
