Hey man, I would trade my 660 for a manual Grizzly any day. I hate belt drives too.

Polaris belt drives seem to work fine. After 2 seasons of GNCC races with NUMEROUS water crossings, I never fried my belt or got it wet.

Ditto. Belts stink. And Polaris are the absolute worst.

I picked up my grizz today, belt drive and all. I asked "Joe" the lead mechanic there, so how much does the belt cost anyhow? -scratches his chin- "Heck I dunno, never put one in a grizz yet" (I assume he meant the 660 grizz.)
I can't complain too much, seems to work close to how a belt should. I'd like it to allow for a bit more rev room when punched, but hell it takes off like a bullet anyhow, just torquey.

Unless a person just prefered the operation of the automatic, I can see no value as to having one.

And I have never had one problem from my belt drive in almost a year. Still, thats not to say that it cant happen. With a geared transmission, its not even in the equation. Sure you can abuse one to the point that you mess up the transmission, but it will indeed hold up better than the rubber band. Mind you, I feel confident I can downplay a belt drive all day. I own one. Not against the rules to trash your own stuff.

I do hate the fact that you can't get a 600+ 4x4 with a geared tranny though. I can feel belt lag and that odd feel through the powerband where you notice it coming and going. Makes me wonder if I should replace the belt sometimes. I hate to think of opening that case though, because I'm sure it will never again be sealed as good as it was the first time.

With the manual, I can put power where I want it when I want it. I have absolutely no aversion to water, and there will never be a chance even 2000 miles down the road where I will have to wonder about the condition of my belt when I'm 20 miles out in the middle of nowhere.

If Yamaha had an automatic like Honda does, I would have no problem. The problem doesn't lie with the automatic part so much as it does with the belt part. I just knock on wood that I don't have any problems. So far so good, but that can change in a heartbeat.

hondas have a hydrostatic type drive.. operates on hydraulic fluid, like the big tractors and some more expensive lawn mowers. When I sold mowers, I HATED hydrostatic drives.

I think the new Rincon (or wtf ever ghey {can't use gay here??} like name they gave to it) is supposed to have a car like auto tranny. dunno for sure

I like the belt drive. it is nice. My wife had surgery on her left foot a few months ago, before that, it hurt her to shift the gears on our wolvy, and it still is sore. the grizz with auto was a PERFECT choice. I have only ridden it for a few hours, but love it!
