Suzuki needs to come "out of the closet" and make a new version of the ZILLA, if they did this would be a serious hit to the sales of the Banshee if it were faster that is, but from what I've herd
(I cant say weather its true or not) but I herd in part they stoped making it because of liability reasons, kinda dangerous like the problem Honda had with the 3-wheelers in the 80's. A stock Zilla would beat a stock Shee ( my thought ), when Suzuki was making the Zilla ( I agree ) in peace. I think it comes down to preference,
if your a Yamaha fan or a Suzuki fan, it's a classic
FORD VS CHEVY argument that will never end.

/adding gas to the fire/

Dang! Those Suzuki guys are *really* easy to get fired up, they'll even start a new thread over it!!
Okay, I'll admit that using the term "waxed" was a bit overkill, but Banshees did hold a top speed advantage over LT500s that was quite obvious. There had to be at least a 5 mph difference, and maybe that was due to gearing but the fact that a 350 is a good race with a 500 at all, and gains alot more as the mods pile up on the machines, says something about the power producing potential of either machine.

/out of gas now.../

Whoever has told you a stock shee will beat a stock Zilla is full of pooh (as in poohlaris). Anyone who was around when these where made will know that a stock Zilla will STOMP a stock shee. If there is any doubt about this, put down the crack pipe.

I was just at a sand drag this weekend and it took banshees with $4K + motors to beat Zillas with $1K in mods. But DAMMMMMM that turbo banshee was something to see.

If you look back a guy posted all the quarter mile times for all the stock quads. It was quoted from one of the magazine articles. The fastest stock quad both acceleration and top end was the Quadzilla second was the Banshee third was the Tecate then LT 250 then the 250R. The top speed on the Quadzilla was like 80 and the Banshee was like 78. The post also stated all the machines reached their top end before the end of the quarter mile. The last guy who posted the Stock Banshee was like 5 mph above the Stock LT 500 is tripping. Yet to see an 85 mph stock Banshee. If you have any more of that good stuff at least share it.

Found it here it is:

Quoted from Truckracer:

3&4 Wheel Action, June 1988. 6 quads at the 1/4 mile asphalt strip (L.A. County). Also these speeds will be the top end of each machine as the article reported all quads were topped out before the end of the quarter.

1. Suzuki 500 Quadracer, 79.20 mph, 15.09 et, 1.938 60 ft time.
2. Yamaha 350 banshee, 77.05 mph, 15.33 et, 1.902 60 ft time.
3. Kawasaki 250 Tecate 4 74.75 mph, 15.81 et, 2.064 60 ft time.
4. Suzuki 250 Quadracer, 71.48 mph, 16.09 et, 1.947 60 ft time
5. Honda 250 4-trax R, 71.89 mph, 16.42 et, 2.084 60 ft time.
6. Kawasaki 250 Mojave, 57.84 mph, 19.07 et, 2.162 60 ft time.

There you go!

Hmmm, it must have just been that the three 500s that I saw back in the day were slow ones. BTW, who would even try running a 250 Mojave for a whole 1/4 mile? It would be topped out for the second 1/8, so why even go the whole way? My 87 Warrior dusted those things, even piped and jetted ones. I think a 350X or Warrior would have made a better showing than the Mojave. Cool article, though! Thanks for the good information.

Awesome info on the top speeds of the ATV's. This kind of information is what everyone wants to know, now if 3&4 Wheel Action magazine would do this test on the NEW Z400 - RAPTOR - BANSHEE - 400EX- ECT ECT ECT everyone would be clear on the power and speed of their machine. However they would also need to test on some hill climbs at the Coast.

One of them just did a shootout comparison including 1/8 mile times and top speeds. I think it went Banshee, Raptor, DS650 then Cannondale Blaze and that's all I remember on the top speed. I'll dig it up at home and try to post the numbers later. All we'll need then is some solid numbers on the Z400 and it'll be complete.

Zillas are bad to the bone machines!! But a worked up Banshee is unbeatable and there aint no two ways about it! The turbo Banshee that kciH was talking about at the sand drags this weekend had atleast 130 rwhp. I will soon have video for everyone to see and all I have to say is the Banshee dominates the drags.

Not sure about the stock vs. stock part of the deal, but Mr350x and I raced last night at the sand drags. Now we know what a ported and piped 350cc banshee can do to a ported and piped 500cc Zilla

Its all in fun though!
