I have an 01 Raptor and want to do some maintenance to the axle and swing arm. So I read the manual and taking thing apart is simple. Now what I would like to know is what is everyone using to reassemble the 50 mm locking nuts for the axle? Did you buy the tool from Yamaha, and if so how much does it cost? Or did you just wing it? TIA

Radman, when I changed my stock axle to a Durablue I went to TSC (Tractor Supply Company) and picked up an 18 inch adjustable cresent wrench for $30.00. It opens to 58mm which is more than wide enough for a stock axle nut and just wide enough for a Durablue locking nut. It's also long enough to give you enough torque, so there's no need to put a pipe on the end of it. Hope this helps you out.

Motion Pro makes a nice set of wrenches (2 wrenches) for this. They are made for a 1/2' drive socket wrench handle / breaker bar. If I recall correctly I paid $36 bucks at the shop - mail order might be cheaper.

I got an 18" adjustable wrench from JC Whitney for $17 and a 2" combination wrench for $9 at the local junk tools place. They worked perfectly for the job.

I have the Motion Pro's and they are worth the investment. Even with the 2002 axle setup on my 2001 Raptor, I still have to tighten the axle nuts every 20-30 hours of riding.

I had a lot of trouble ordering them through a local distributor so I got them sent directly from Motion Pro. If you want them immediately, this is the route I would go. Tell them your local supplier said they were on backorder or something from their supplier. They will want to keep you happy and will send them right out to you.

The only downside to the adjustable wrenches is not knowing how much torque you are putting on the axle nuts.
