Hello, I just bought a 02 Raptor my neihbor has a 01 raptor.He changed the front sprocket to a 12 instead of the 13.We finally got a chance to race, and we were even exept for he was better at the holeshot.He says that the smaller sprocket slowed his bike down.I know they have a new tranny in the 02 and I read that everyone wants to upgrade to the new tranny.But why, if the first design is faster or is it?[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

 

The reason for the change is that the 01 has serious break down issues. Another reason is the 02 has better spacing in the gears. I am not sure if one is faster than the other.

 

We have seen the 01 to be slightly faster than the 02 drag racing. I believe the 01 stays in the first 2 gears a little longer. The motor has the torgue to pull it. A 13 sprocket is deffinatly faster than the 12.

 

O1 Raptor is Faster than the 02. I think the gear spacing is to far apart in first and secound.
P.S Dont race your neighbor, it could be dissapointing.

 

If I wanted to stay up with 01 when he puts the other sprocket back on couldn't I just change the front sprocket one tooth up.They seem almost exact they way they are with his one tooth down.Just curious,don't plan to.

 

It does seem logical that the 02's are a tad bit slower than the 01's in forward gear, since they closed the gear ratio. I've heard there is a big difference in the reverse speed. Any truth in that??????? Never came across a 02 Raptor so I can't conduct a comparison myself. Proud owner of a 01 Raptor (660Restricted) model.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

 

The 01 gearing takes advantage of the engines torque curve more efficient manner than the 02. This is why the '01's are slightly quicker through 3rd. You could gear your 02 up, but 4th and 5th will be almost useless unless you up the hp ante.

 

Man i dont understand the whole 01 and 02 Raptor thing.. Every one I talk to thinks that an 01 has an Advantage over an 02 in a drag race. But From my personal experience. I have seen my buddy Josh (BaD660) with his 02 Rappy put the woopin on some 01 Raptors even some with pipes and jet mods. I mean yea Josh is a lil ****. Only about 150 pounds or less and He rides his Rappy like he Stole it. But still. We all ran on a long asphalt road once and Josh's 02 was ahead of the 01 every single time. So I dont understand..

 

Ask the 150 lb josh to jump on a 01 and race his 02. that should settle it.

 

The 01 gears have 3 shift dogs, and 02 have 4 stift dogs. This makes them stronger. 1st gear is lower by 6%, 2nd by 9%, and 3rd by 3.7%. Reverse is also lower, other than that they are the same.(or so I've been told) [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]
