Just a Sunday cruise on the bikes.... NOT :)

I invited a good friend to come over and ride in our "playground" yesterday. MMcGuire (red griz), bro (bigbear 2x4 w/ DD 27" rears), sis (bigbear 4x4 stock), bro (wife's silver griz), and myself (griz) headed out for a lil ride. We decided to try a new route towards an area that we really wanted to get too. Well we didnt get there...not because the bikes couldnt make it, because of no GPS and not knowing the area that we were in. SOMEDAY, we will find a route that will get us to the camp that another of the sis's own...lol.
But for the trip... We started from the house and headed down the ole flat (lumpy/sandy/dirt/mud) snowmobile trail for a couple of miles. Along the way, there were a couple of nice mud holes that were high with water. Everyone crossed without a hitch..(hehe, well kinda). The further down the trail we went, the rougher it got. Outcropping rocks and mud holes became closer and closer together. Finally, we came to a spot that McGuire had been before. It was a wet land area that had two DEEP creeks running through it. There really seemed to be no way around it, except to backtrack and go out to the road and around that way....but that wouldnt have been any fun! hehe
Well, mike decided to go around...NOT, he stuck the griz, nose first into a nice lil hole that was all soup. You know, that type of mud that has a stench to it?? that sticks to ya like glue and sucks the boots right off your feet?!?!? lol, well, needless to say....i had to try it too. We ended up taking the three griz's through it, each needing a lil winching or help to get all the way across. The other bikes decided to "go around" the long way.
After that, we moved at a slow crawl across some of the neatest boulders and large rocks that ya can find on a long trail. It really was awsome, some of the views of the lakes/rock faces that we came across. I would have to say, besides getting stuck in the mud, the view is the second best part of riding..
The trail finally came to a swamp/bog area that for the most part looked passable. It was, but took alot of work from all of us. We each took turns, either pushing, winching, or pulling on eachother to get through. It was a decent ride as far as time.. around 5 hours...but only 37 miles in length.
I guess the reason that i share these with ya, is because, nothing feels better than a ride that you finsh...ya go home....take a long sauna...and SLEEP like a king.
One other thing i would like to bring up....is, one griz had stockers on it (was always having problems in the mud)...one had ITP 589's (did pretty good for an old man riding it..lol) and mine with DD's on it (let's just say, i was the one that had the "least" amount of help) hehe
I know that mike will reply and say that "his bike was better", but believe me....MINE WAS>.... J/K
Thanks mike for coming riding with us...it is always fun seeing all the bikes work together.

wow, that's suprising. I would think the 589's would be better because they are mud tires, and have the deeper lugs. The lugs on the dd xt's are 1 1/4" and the 589's at least 1 1/2" but if you say so i guess i can't argue, i wasn't there. I was just saying so becasue i was trying to decide between dd xt;s and the 589's a while ago. don't mind though because the 589's are great.

Lsnake...
We both made it through most of it, i would just say that mike "chose" to get stuck....if you know what i mean. The DD's and 589's BOTH performed very well. The places that he got stuck, i hit at a little faster speed, but i wouldnt say that my tires are better and i also wouldnt say that his are better. I like them both. I will try the 589's at some time. I really like them both.
PLUS>.....i was just giv'n my riding bud a hard time!
You can ask mike (MMcGuire) the DD's are just as good as the 589's in honesty. As far as the lug's, both tires paddled through, and pulled like heck. BUT, if you hit top center, it doesnt matter what tires you have on.
I will put some video of our trip in my yahoo profile as soon as i can, so you can see...hehe
Jonathan
PS: Mike, kevin is working on the digital video as we speak, i will try to post it and you can copy? it i think...if not, i will just give ya a video tape of it. It turned out pretty nice...only problem is, now, everytime that we go out, i will wanna video! lol

I can tell you this, Both of the tires performed great. It would have to be a personal decision as to which to get. I had not seen the dirt devils until Sunday, I did however see the 589's, that made up my mind. Had I seen the dirt devils and not the 589's I may have gone with dirt devils. All I know is the stock tires Su@k...
I finally sent the maps. We were almost to the peshieki grade when we turned around.
When are some of You Trolls going to come up and ride with us???
2002 Grizz
27" ITP 589's (much better than the dirt devils, He knew better than to go where I did!!)

Have any of you tried the 28" Mudzilas. My buds dad has some on an old style Kodiak. They have more grip than anything I have ever see, more than the little 400 wants.
Frogman28 I really enjoy reading your stories. Kinda gives me a break from reading what pige or jets, and name calling.
