Raptor: Adding a larger oil tank with stock oil pump?
#1
well it seem that my second oil tank for my Raptor again started leaking at the base where the return oil line attaches to the bottom of the tank. the first time it happened i thought prehaps the mechanic repairing my busted up tranny might have tweaked it removing the motor, o well i thought, so i asbored the cost of the tank ($170 i think). it didn't start leaking until months after the tranny got repaired. the oil tanks design is to thin for the amount of stress put on to it by that return line. FACT.
anyways now im forced to buy my first mod to my raptor, a shiny new large capacity from http://www.speedracingproducts.com/ for $260, woooohooo. so my question is with the new tank that holds an extra quart of oil, that's gonna put more stress on the life span of the oil pump, creating another problem down the line. i know it doesn't sound like much (an extra quart of oil) but the brilliant engineers over at Yamaha designed the oil pump to only a certain amount of oil through the motor. any thoughts?

The oil pump size is determined by the needs of the engine (flow rates and pressure). The oil reservoir is an external storage tank that feeds the pump by gravity. It has nothing to do with the pressurization (ok an extra quart might add 2lbs [aproximate weight of 1 quart of oil] of inlet pressure, but the pump is pushing out at probably 60 or 80 psi, so if anything it might help in a teensy, tiny little way) or flow of the system, unless of coures it runs dry, and then you have problems.
