2001 Raptors transmission issue?

ok, I have to buy used.
so, If I pick up a 2001 Raptor, will I be hosed with the transmission problems? And, is it a time bomb waiting to explode on me costing me all kinds of extra cash??!??!
Does anyone have a 2001 Raptor that can let me know????

You may or may not be hosed of the tranny problem as long the motor is stock and no aftermarket pipe on it. The tranny will fail either on 2nd or 3rd on extreme load of troque when you have aftermarket pipe.
My went after 5 straight days of riding and the second gears start to go. Still rideable as long stay away from the 2nd.
The pipe I have on it LRD and work good for me due to sound level out to Oregon dunes area.
If you got the 2001 Raptor and no tranny problem yet. you could go 2 ways both of them is upgrade, one is replaced the gears and put 2002 gears and other peoples have mention of this forum. Or upgrade to Fortin gears which will cost you some bucks. That only replaced 2nd and 3rd gear only.
What you want to do the bike, riding style, racing?
what the vin number say. The higher the vin number is the better it is I think but i could be wrong on that.
See what other peoples say about that.

That aftermarket pipe thing is a crock - My serial # is 1550 and I have a full W.B. exhaust and the W.B. pipe has been on there for all 16 months. I also have the Stage 2 DynoKit installed.

Before I had LRD I did had the WB of E-series and had it for a years till I put on LRD and it put more hp and more torque then E-series did.
If you read the mag. of Dirtwheel and it tell you about the tranny issue that it will likely fail in under extreme load of torque.....

I read Dirtwheels and I don't remember reading an article that mentioned that. I have the issues, which one was it?
The W.B. is designed for low end torque, it may not be QUITE as much as the LRD, but it still can't be a DRAMATIC difference over the other. Not enough to blame the pipe (IMO).
Did you have the full system on the W.B?

The Dirtwheel mag. issue is March 2002 page 140 under Gearbox dilemma
I had the slip on E-series since they didn't came out the full systems yet.
Oh yes it did big a big change from WB E-series to LRD. Like I say TORQUE made big different and hp too. maybe couple pounds different of torque. Still made a big different.
Speed wise very fast......
