BANSHEE vs 250R
#3
I believe the Banshee is titled as 41hp at the flywheel and the 250R was titled as 36 hp at the flywheel. My Z400 is definitley faster than my 250R was when it was stock. However the Banshee is a horrible trail and woods bike. Unless you are riding in the dunes I wouldn't recommend either one. Any of the new 4 stroke performance quads are much better in the woods and for most overall riding needs. I narrowed my options down between the Raptor and the Z400 and after driving both I decided on the Z400 because I could buy it for 5100.00 and the Raptor would have ran me 5699.00. Plus most of the woods riding and trails I do keeps you in 3rd gear or lower and I honestly couldn't tell any power difference between these 2 quads until I had the Raptor opened up in 5th gear on the road.

Lancer202,
Let's try this in this forum since the other thread in the Honda got a little sidetracked.
If you are really considering one of the 2 machines I would recommend the Banshee. Not just because I have one but because they are the best choice in a 2 stroke machine. The 250Rs are OK but not that fast and the NEWEST model you can get is 13 years old. The Banshees are still being made so your budget can decide how old of a machine you buy. Zillas are fast but suffer the same problems as 250Rs, they are all at least 11 years old and finding one in good shape is tough.
Get a Banshee, mod it to the extent you need and have fun. You got a 400ex already so balance that out with a basnhee and have the best of both worlds.

I agree with WyoDuner, I had a 86 250R & it was a great quad & a blast to ride.
But it was a 16 year old quad & matinence was a nightmare. Yes the 250R handled better than a Shee but it wasn't worth the hassle.
If your heart is set on a 2 stroke go with the Shee.
4 strokes are a much better all around option. Any of the new 4 strokes Raptor, C'dale, DS or Z400 are exelent quads.
I miss that 2 stroke power band but the reliabilaty & torque of the 4 strokes more than make up for it.
