I am trying to polish some factory banshee wheels that I have left over. But I dont know wich stuff to use to remove the factory coating that they put on the wheels. I tried sanding it with 400wet sandpaper but my arm was gone before I could notice a change in the surface.

So I bought one of those steel whool that go on the end of a drill. I does get the coating off but it too rough and it put deep scraches on the rims istead of just removing the coating...

Anybody have any ideas ????

My next experiment will be aircraft paint remover.... but I dont knoe if it'll work....

any help is apreciated.

A few years back, I read in these forums that someone used oven cleaner,it has to be the nasty, caustic stuff, not the safe, fume free brand. just spray it on, let it sit about a half hour, and it should wipe off,or rub of a lot easier, with a scotch brite pad.

wal-mart has some air craft stripper in the automotive department. Not sure if it will work. did not work on my stock swingarm but it worked good on the motor casses.

I am not 100% sure it would work but you could try spray on gasket remover. Autoshack should carry it. I know it works on the radiator of banshees.

On my motor cases the air-craft remover instantly started making the paint come off. U can wait about 20 mins then just wipe the paint off. But I am not sure about rims he clear coat may be stronger. I would try it though, the worst it could do is take the clear off.
