How do you guys take off?

I have a 02 Raptor and when I rev it in first and dump the clutch it wants to flip me on my a$$...
What are you guys doing to get the best jump of the line?

There are many people on here that could give you better advice than me but this is what I have learned. Lower it with a solid front end, this really helps. I, without my wheelie bar, start off in second instead of first this way I can control the power better and have one less shift. Most important to me this far is use your weight. I know that might be over said but it helps sooo much. The moose always seems to have good answers/help when it comes to drag racing, maybe he'll chime in.

Well I have tryed that and when I start in second gear it's to high geared I walways get pulled then once it startes to wind out I catch up.

What I have been doing is just letting the clutch out kinda slow in first to get me moving then I let it rip and shift to second... But I want a better way to get the best jump.

Like ward said the quick & easy way to help your launch is to lower your front end with solid struts. This helps but is not a complete fix.
To really fix it & make your launches consistant you need a wheelie bar.
Also tying down your rear suspension to full compression helps
When I launch I'm on the rev limiter in first gear.

Here are some pics of my drag set up
Lowered front with struts
Wheelie bar

You don't have to get as elaborate with your wheelie bar as I did. Somthing as simple as a couple of bars bolted to the skid plate will work.

Chris,

If you want to start in second gear, and not bog the motor down, you'll probably just want to get a smaller front sprocket (one tooth). It will make you lose some top end, but you'll be able to launch from second gear.

For clarification for the other guys here, I am pretty sure he's just talking about recreational drag races up the bowls in the dunes, and not straight line drags. There's no sense putting struts on and a wheelie bar for recreational riding.

Unique - if you are getting the dragrace fever then you should consider a +4 swingarm. I find my self 90% of the time lined up at the drag strip when I am at the dunes. My bike is an 01 raptor and the next big purchase I plan to get is an extended swingarm. I was racing a fella at the dunes back march, he had a 686 with a +4 swingarm and 10 paddle haulers. He was getting the hole shot by like almost 2 bikes. Get the extended swingarm, you wont regret it

I would recommend what Chad400ex suggests...get a smaller front sprocket and rev-n-dump the clutch in 2nd.

In second try slipping the clutch just enough to keep the front end down. It works well for me and I have went up one tooth on the front.

I have to start in 1st. When i did second even with the 12 tooth sprocket it still bogged. The best thing is to lower the front. I used struts at first, but they almost killed me cause they are so rigid. I bought the dura blue kit but it did not drop it too low, so i modified the kit and made my own brackets. I also lowered the back but i leave the back higher than the front. I used to want an extended swingarm but for now i love it, I am not even thinking about an extended one anymore. I race one with ext. swingarm and same mods and lowered and i kept beating him.

Will have pics soon.
