well im confused here, i took my spark plug out and it's very black, and it has no tan spot showing that it's the right mixture so i can't figure out if i need a bigger or smaller jet. basically what does a black spark plug mean? any help appreciated, thanks

a black plug means you are running rich, too much gas,i guess you re-jetted it?if you already have a aftermarket pipe and better filter set up,maybe a air box mod?if there is any way you get more air going through the moter, try that first,if you already have all those mods, then you are gonna have to go back down a size in jets, how is it running?

well, i guess the guy before me rejetted it, before i got it it had no airbox and just a clamp on K&N and i guess bigger jets but no aftermarket exhaust, now i got a airbox on it with a washable K&N, didn't look at jetting and a sort of aftermarket exhaust (sister gave it to me, a hollowed out stock pipe) it runs fine starts easy and has no problems that i can recognize. what are some distinctive traits that i acn notice of being to rich...when driving the quad thanks

it could mean a lot of things, dirty filter, poor jetting, you left your choke on,etc.
did you do a chop test were you hold it wide open throttle then cut the ignition? im told this is the only correct way to do it right or else your reading from different circuits in the carb. start with a fresh plug, and chop it.
