Greasing the Raptor?
#1
Well, I have had the Raptor out for some serious play time, and I love this machine But after bringing it home washing it, cleaning the chain and re-oiling it, I thought I better check with you guy's about how often I should hit all the grease zerks? I was surprised to see so many of them, after owning a Prairie 650 with all sealed bushings. Anyway, how often should I grease it, and is it the normal procedure of greasing it until you see grease come out of the bushing/bearing? I ride in dry desert conditions, no water here, just loose powdery dirt, gravel and sand. Thanks for the info guy's.

I do a full service (adjust valves, Change oil, clean oil filter, clean air filter, Change spark plug, Lube & generally check things over) every 20 hours.
But I'm a bit picky about my quad!
I add grease till I just start seeing grease come out the seals.
I then clean the excess grease off & I put vacume caps on all the zerks for protection.

This is good advice to follow. (about every 20hrs)

Does anyone else find it hard to get to the upper a-arm zerks? When I first got mine they didn't even have grease in them.

Thanks for the info guy's. Sounds like a good schedule to me. I ride on average about 3.5 hours at a time, once a week. So I will need to service it at least every 6 weeks, which would work out to be about 21 hours, with air filter cleaning a little more often. Thanks again.

You can get vacume caps at any auto parts store. They are just a rubber cap that keeps crud off the zerks.
I use a Mobilith AW-2 industrial grease.
It usually takes about an hour just for the valves but I've never rushed through it & I take time to check all the fasteners & clean the areas that are inaccessable when the tank & plastic are on.
I'm going to replace all the tough zreks with angled head zerks so they'll be easy to get to.
Any one know if metric pipe threads are the same as SAE pipe threads?

You should stop greasing immediatly when grease is coming thru the seal because the grease will blow the seal. It would be best to stop before the grease comes thru but it's hard to tell when.
Lithium grease is what is called for in the manual and that's what I use.
